Just found out that our TV shows will have to be Closed Captioned starting Jan, 2006…What are the solutions that are available, excluding “send it out”…We want to do the captioning in house as we already have all script in Word format…We do everything DV in – DV out and are interested in software and/or hardware solutions…We currently use Premiere Pro 1.5.1 on a powerful machine with no Matrox, Canopus, etc…
    Thanks

The DV codec will not handle closed captioning as far as I know. Take a look here: https://www.robson.org/capfaq/

It would be OK if I had to run the program through a seperate piece of hardware…It just doesn’t seem like there are many options at all…I’m just finding out today that there are only 30 days until broadcast TV must be cc…I can’t believe that this is not creating a serious issue for many, many people…I search the archives and find only a couple of folks expressing concern…I would think that this would be “Lead story” on the forumns…This is an issue that has the potential to put quite a few folks out of business…
    Thanks

Thanks for the effort…I’ve been to their site and am only slightly less confused now…Can’t tell exactly what is needed software and hardware wise…I’m just as blown away that this is not the main topic of discussion here…Is everybody on this forum just making home movies…Can’t be…There must be folks making TV for broadcast that this issue will affect…
    Thanks

I think there are some people on this list who are producing for television including myself. We have CPC closed caption software and an SDI encoder box which can do CC and Open Caption, etc.
I think that our software hardware combination cost approx. $15,000US so the investment is quit high to get started. This is why most people send their captioning to an outside supplier.
Have a look at this from their website.

By the way I am not affiliated with CPC at all. It is just the fact that they are one of the only companies doing this kind of software.

I spoke to the folks at cpc and it looks like they’ll be able to help…We do everything DV…They have a DV solution that is software only for $6,500…To me, sending it out seems like a waste of money…Our turn around time wouldn’t permit it anyway…If I buy, I can up the client’s cost by a small amount and make back my money in the long run…I could also offer local captioning service…’preciate the input…
