    Hello all,

I have searched extensively but have not found a good answer to my situation. hoping you may provide some input.

We are importing Closed captioning files made in caption maker using the Avid Captions only format (MXF) but the formatting looks wrong. one line is centered but the other is skewed to one side.

We have tested these same files in Premiere but the formatting looks good.

The question is, are there any settings or options that we can play with in Avid exclusively for Closed Captioning???

We have found lots of information about how to change the look of open captions or subtitles, but nothing on closed captions.

Hope to hear from you guys.

    D.

    Couple of things.

I typically use avid aaf output from caption maker to bring into Avid, so i’m not sure about any mxf options. (Is this video with embedded captions out of caption maker?)

Having said that, when you say it “looks” wrong, what are you using to judge this?

I find Avid’s ability to display the closed captions less than perfect.

I would always check my output in a different program, (i use Switch) or through my hardware scopes.

If you want to send your captionmaker project, i’d be happy to take a look.

    Thanks Glenn,

We just right click on the monitor window and click on “show captions” in avid to check the CC.

I am going to export a clip out of avid and check in another program to see if avid is showing us the wrong thing.

Let me gather a project tomorrow and i will share to see if you can see something different.

    Thanks again,

    D.

    Glenn,

you were actually right, Avid displays CC horribly but they were there properly formatted the whole time. we ran some tests and it works well.

    thanks for your input!

I think “Boston” has truly gotten to the root of the problem here. Very helpful.

Brie, is there no way to ban the bots that are filling all these forums?

Last week, I put this user and another fellow on moderated status. They seemed helpful at first, and suddenly (perhaps being encouraged by Creative COW’s new gamification?) things got weird. Since they had sincerely contributed to several questions, I left the profile’s mostly intact, and got rid of the weird stuff (and now the above). It seemed to me that, after a while, they were using AI to answer questions rather than contributing from personal knowledge. This had been one of my worries about gamification, and we’re certainly becoming more aware of the potential unwanted behaviors that it can produce!
