    Hi,

I’m currently cutting a sequence with 2 video tracks. The main camera I’m using is on V2 and an alternative angle is on V1. My problem is every time I solo V1 to see what is on there all of V2 becomes unrendered and I can’t get it back. I’ve done a bit of research and I know FCP has had render relinking problems in the past but I assumed it must have been remedied by now. This is a disaster for me as it takes 15 min to render my sequence. I’m running vers 7.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

that is what will always happen. If you just disable the clip on V2 (Ctrl-b) you will just have to rerender that part of the video.

If you touch the Visibility (although the warning) you just need “Undo” to recover the render.
Another solution is to low the transparency of the track and “Undo”.

Thanks for the reply. OK, so how do I view V1 without losing the render?

    Thanks,

    Steve

The “Green Photogram” icon, toggle track Visibility.

Although the warning, just need “Undo” to recover your rendered time-line.
Same will happens if you low the Transparency on Track 2.

Thank you, it looks like the undo is the way to go. It seems crazy to me as solo-ing a track isn’t an edit. If you had several layers of video you would need to do this all the time and it seems you are in danger of losing the render.

Oh well, thank you very much for the info…….

    You are right Steve.
That feature is in the list to Santa since a long time.
    Hopefully in FC 8.

I still recommend disabling the clip above, that way you can make a change to something and using the visibility button causes a video preview build each time that can take a few to several seconds.

I prefer to just right click the clips in the timeline and use clip enabled. Its easier, and doesn’t lose render files. If you disable a clip it will live in the timeline and you just turn the lights off like its invisible.
    hope that helps.

It does help. Thanks a lot. I knew there would be a reasonable solution.

So then, if I simply enable and disable the clips I’ve spread over five video tracks to view them and cut them into manageable transition points, I’ll not lose any rendering until I begin to put the pieces of this puzzle into one ‘master’ video track? It’s a simple two camera, two angle, one scene music video.

    If I had a do-over, I’d learn to read.
