[Craig Guiboche] “s there a way I can see if a clip has been used and if/also which timelines it has been used in?”

Below are instructions from Page 32, Part 1 of the FCP manual. The Browser version of Find also includes a search for Used Clips. The feature will search one or more user specified timelines, allowing you to ferret out where you’ve used the clips, but it doesn’t specifically spell out that information. Play with the feature a bit, I think you find it pretty useful.

Searching for Unused Clips in Your Project
You can search for unused clips in your project.
    To search for unused clips:
1 Do one of the following:
    Â Open your project.
Â Make sure your project is the frontmost tab in the Browser.
2 Choose Edit > Find (or Press Command-F).
3 Choose your project from the Search pop-up menu.
4 Choose Unused Media from the For pop-up menu and deselect the “in selected
sequences” checkbox to the right of the menu.
    5 Click Find All.
