I am having other weird occurences and just not sure if this is normal or a result of other stuff going on.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but your suggestion is basic and already been tried over and over. It is always the first thing I and anyone else should try. Before I post on Cow I always do all the obvious stuff first… then research… then post. I have already removed my prefs and it is not fixing the problem. I have been on the phone with Apple care and AJA… no one seems to know so here I am posting.

If anyone else has any idea or it has happened to them…. please help.

Thank you Matte for your reply… it is appreciated but already done.

Quit FCP and trash your caches.

    Hardrive>user>library>prefrences>Final Cut Pro User Data

Trash the “Final Cut Pro Obj cache.fcmch” & the “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.fcpch” files. Reopen FCP.

Are there any negative effects on deleting just the cache? I have already trashed and relaunched my prefs for another problem I was experiencing…. then this happened. Are you suggesting I only trash the cache files and not all of the pref folder as I previously did? Are there negative effects on the rest of the project or will the cache folder rebuild itself as I work on the project?

Just trying to be precautious cause I am finished the project and about to author the DVD and don’t want to have to start anything all over again.

    Thank you!

Nope. Throw out the cache and you should be good to go. Leave the rest of the preferences alone.

Ok… trashing the cache didn’t fix the problem. Still showing offline media icon on the timeline but playing back fine. Also, when I launch the project it tells me I have 6 media files offline but where it should list the files is blank with one blue line… very wierd. I am not sure if I mentioned my set up but it is a G5 Quad with a 1.28 TB Drive, AJA IO and Betacam deck. I have already trashed the whole pref folder and now the cache files… is it possible FCP reads the cache from the trash can? I failed to empty the trash before I relaunched.

    Thank you 🙂

i emptied the trash and shut down FCP… deleted caches files again… emptied trash again then rebooted and same thing. arrrggghhh… does it sound like software problem?

[MissDivaGirl] “Still showing offline media icon on the timeline but playing back fine”

Does this clip have any rendered effects on it. If so, the media is playing from the RENDER FILE. If the clip becomes unrendered for any reason (you make an adjustment), the clip would then be really offline.
