    Hi there,

I’ve just encountered a strange problem in FCP5.

I’m making a project using a timeline that includes files of different types (size / format), which should normally be fine, and may or may not have something to do with the problem.

    The problem is this:
All of the clips I’ve put on the timeline are playing back fine, except one, which works fine when I scrub through, but if I try to play it, it displays the final frame from a different clip. Weird eh?

I’ve tried cleaning out the render cache, restarting my machine, dropping a new edit from the problematic clip on the line, but nothing works.

    Anyone have any ideas ??

    cheers

I’m not sure what could be causing it, but I would first try making an entirely new sequence and drop your problematic video into it, and see what happens. If it seems to work okay, then copy over what you have in your first sequence into the new one, and see if you run into the same problem.

If that doesn’t work, then you may want to try FCP Rescue. You can use it to backup your FCP preference files and then trash the originals, forcing Final Cut to generate new ones. If that fixes your problem, then you know that it was an issue with preferences and you can change all of the settings back to the way that you like and continue to work. If that doesn’t fix the problem, the you can use FCP Rescue to restore your old preferences, that ones that you had sent to the trash. It’s worth a try, if nothing else.

    Best of Luck,

Some formats don’t play so well with Final Cut. I would open up the problem file in Quicktime pro and convert it to a Quicktime movie. That should fix it.

    Thanks..

I tried a different version of the output, and that’s worked fine. it’s very odd, as theres nothing particularly unusual about the first file format. Ah well – all solved 🙂

    cheers all

While you’re waiting for help, can you tell me where to find the render cache?
I think I need to clear mine out too.

    THANKS!

    Hi,
    sure.

do a search for ‘Final Cut Pro Documents’ (I’ve saved mine in my favorite places) – in there is a whole load of useful things, like Render Files, Capture Scratch and autosave.

    🙂
