Clip Log/ Batch Capture. To use Vegas extensively, I need the ability to import batch capture lists and edl’s, and be able to capture in an automated fashion. I believe Vegas calls this the “Clip Log” (? or perhaps I don’t understand the Vegas way?) I am willing to buy the necessary hardware, but do not want to buy if this is not going to work. Currently have been using Firewire interface with HDV. I have only been able to do manual captures. The Sony 270 camcorder I currently use also has HD-SDI out, but I will also need to be able to interface with analogue Betacam machines (RS-422), and other decks as well.

Is there anyone successfully doing the above with Vegas Pro 10, with AJA, Blackmagic, or any other hardware??

I’ve only used batch capture and cliplog with mu old DV Canon GL1, and I had to record all the way through with each new tape to put timecode on it. Normally with the lens cap on and in a quiet room. Then I could rewind it and capture to tape as normal but the original linear timecode remained on the tape. Batch capture needs this timecode in order for it to work. I use a BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle to capture from my HDV camera but straight from the imager without tape. I capture as BlackMagic Motion JPEG avi and bypass the m2t compression. It has a much better quality than m2t, no mpeg compression artifacts. Once it’s captured to tape, it’s already compressed as m2t and I may as well capture via firewire, and could probably take advantage of the batch capture ability, although I never did this with my HDV camera.

From what I hear, Vegas cannot do batch capture from tape. I need this feature for a multi-user, multi-station workflow. Without it, Vegas can only do some smaller secondary editing for our work.

One work around perhaps, does any company offer a batch capture method of capturing video separate from a whole editing package that could be used with Vegas??
I have lots of tapes, long term storage. Not only do I need the batch capture feature, I also have to be able to import the timeline to go with it. The timeline would have to match the batch capture (edl clips would have to automatically recognize the appropriate footage that has been captured, so that everything would also be placed on the timeline for refinement, and final projection.
