why does vegas allow me to drag the end of a clip infinitely? i can’t seem to get it to the original length without deleting it off the timeline and re inserting it. must be an option right?

When you drag out the end of an clip past its “actual” end, you’ll notice a V-shaped notch appears along the top edge of the event. That’s the point where the clip will now begin over from the start, or “loop”. Just don’t drag the event out that far. If you do, you’ll notice a slight hesitation or resistance in the drag before the clip starts looping. Drag it back again and you’ll notice it “snap” into the proper place. I’ve never needed to turn this function off.

“why does vegas allow me to drag the end of a clip infinitely?”

You may not like it but that’s the way Vegas does it.

Look closely at the clip and, if it’s repeating, you’ll see a tiny notch (looks like a V) somewhere along the top of it. This is the repeatig point. To go back to the original length, drag the end of the clip backwards (or the beginning forward, as the case may be) until the V goes away.

You can also just trim it by using the S (Split) key at the desired point and deleting the unwanted segment.

Right-click the event and choose Properties. Unchcek ‘loop’.
Then, when you drag it out past the end it stays on the last frame.

oh well… very useful for gfx but one REALLY annoying feature otherwise

Why is this so annoying to you? First of all, why are you making it longer if you don’t want it longer? And then why is it snapping back to the “V” mark not sufficient? If I don’t want it extended past the end, I just don’t do it. Just trying to understand.

i just don’t see the point of it! i’m constantly having to drag the end point back, maybe that’s just me, plus the function only loops one layer, if i have a short graphic on another layer what happens to that?

Not sure what you mean by “layer”. If you’re changing the length of one event then, naturally, only that one event will be changed – not any on any other track. I’ve just never seen this be an issue before.

[john culleton] “why does vegas allow me to drag the end of a clip infinitely?”

There are times (such as text events or stills) that I want to be able to drag the event out for longer than the default time without having to open a box and enter the new time – after I’ve figured out how long that is, of course 🙁
At times like this, I definitely appreciate the way Veags does things.
