Client requesting a Custom HTML, need advice.
Posted by Ned Miller on November 15, 2012 at 7:21 pmI finished a video for a client and provided a QT and he just asked:
“can you provide a custom HTML on Vimeo so that you can embed it on your website?”
Not sure what he means here, he said he had done that before on a hosting site called Wistia and I guess he wants me to do it on my Vimeo site?
I appreciate any advice, I’m using FCP-6
Thanks

November 15, 2012 at 7:37 pmThanks Harrison. But I don’t want his videos on my site. Wouldn’t they appear on my site if I do the embedding there? Should I have him start his own Vimeo site?

November 15, 2012 at 11:24 pmDave,
Is it possible for me to “host” it on my Vimeo site yet visitors to my site won’t actually see it? In that case I’m OK with it.
Thank you,

November 16, 2012 at 12:47 amI think to have it on your site and not visible to others it can be password protected but that makes it difficult to then link from another website without people having to use a password.
If your client has their own web site then why can’t they embed the video as a Flash or HTML5? If they have a webmaster then I would talk to them. Otherwise the client should set up their own Vimeo site and upload to that where they will be given the HTML link code to embed. Setting up a Vimeo site isn’t exactly difficult. Once setup they can give you the login details to upload the video.

If you restrict the video to be watched on your Vimeo site, will also be restricted to be played from the website is embed.[Michael Gissing] “If your client has their own web site then why can’t they embed the video as a Flash or HTML5? Right that.
If your client prefers to host the video on Vimeo, tell him to open a Vimeo PLUS account, otherwise the clip will be recompressed after a short period of time and the quality will decrease.

No. I suggest you create a new Vimeo (or YouTube) account in your client’s name and host it from there – get their permission for this, obviously. That’s the only way you can do it properly (for free).
