March 28, 2008 at 1:41 pmFunny how encountering problems oft times results in my biggest learning leaps. Thanks to the various explanations, I pretty much get it. I’m not a fan of pirating software. I see now that I have to build an extra step into my model in order for clients to view in the raw what was shot. Not unlike old VHS “window dubs.” Nevertheless, it’s too bad that Panasonic and Apple haven’t worked a deal where the DVCProHD codec isn’t a feature of Quicktime Pro. And Zane, I do know that CS is Adobe, it just got confused with FCS in the heat of battle after a long day. You know how that goes. Many thanks, all.

That makes sense for companies that make money from software.
Panasonic, however, makes money by selling hardware. Restricting what computers can play with their hardware doesn’t seem to do anything for Panasonic’s bottom line that I can see.
It WOULD help Apple out a lot, however. So I don’t know anything, but it seems we can make a pretty good guess about who’s idea this was.
So we’re left with a situation where the people writing the software are different from the people restricting the software. Why this is so we can only guess at, but I’m betting that ‘compensating the creators of the software’ isn’t the reason here.
