So, I’m nudging my marketing director with some of my conceptual pieces – and I’m finally getting some positive feedback. Now, he’s asking if I can add clickable links in a web banner I designed in AE and exported as an animated GIF.

Is this possible? Do I have to export it into Animate and add the interactivity there?

I don’t think a GIF can have a clickable link (like a specific button or text to click on), but the GIF itself can be clickable.

That would be set in HTML when putting the GIF on a website/email, the same as making a button or other image (PNG, JPG, etc.) clickable.

Since a GIF can’t contain HTLM, you would need to look into an HTML5 solution.

You can google some methods/plugins to make AE animations into HTML5, but I’ve never used them.

What I eventually had to do was recreate the web banner native in Animate, and add the clickable buttons there. I had to find a cheap host to test it, but it worked! I found out this is the workflow some banner designers have to do …
