Cleaning up Avid Media on drives
I was called in to help a company sort and clean up their media mess. Just looking at it now I realize that it’s more of a disaster than a mess. There is media all over the place- MXF files, OMFI media files, multiple projects on multiple drives, etc. I decided to use Media Mover to help sort the issue but there is a file on there that says “No Project Name: MXF key not found.” Of course this folder holds the majority of the media and it seems to be files from every possible project with no identification as to what project they belong to.
Any tips and suggestions as to how I can effectively organize the media from these 12+ projects onto their own drives, properly labeled, etc?

Start Avid and let it rebuild all the databases and try MediaMover again. If that fails to help, download MDV (a free MediaMover type program) and see if it can tell you more about the media. Here’s the link for MDV:
I’ve used it to back up all my projects since it was released a few yearas ago.

It turns out I needed to upgrade my Media Mover because we recently upgraded the Avid. I can’t use MDV because it’s only available for PCs and I am on a Mac.
Do you know if you can actually move media from one drive to another on Media Mover or does it just move files off and online?

If you have fresh drives to move media onto, won’t the Media Tool do exactly what you want?
