Clean Smooth Title fades
I’m a relative newcomer to FCP (have FCP5). I absolutely love it, what abilities, especially the multiclip feature. I’m coming over from Media 100 and find the learning curve a bit steep at times but I’m starting to cook. Anyway, my current problem/dilemma is with titles and fading them up and down. The work I’m doing uses simple titles, white on black background. All I want to do is to fade them up and then down – cleanly.
The problem is I can’t figure out a way to do that consistently. Most often I get a kind of jump or slight flare/burst as I fade up or down. At the top of the fade when it’s complete, the title then is fine, clear, nice. The same occurs on the fade down. As it starts it slightly flares/bursts and then fades down fine. But it looks crappy and amateurish
I’ve tried everything & look everywhere in the docs for help. I’ve tried a cross dissolve in to the title from a black clip, a fade up and fade down on each end from and to the clips, and I’ve tried just doing a manual fade up and down within the title clip. None of it consistently gives me a clean fade. (The dissolve is fine going from a clip to a title but I don’t want part of clip dissolving in to the title. I need to go to black and then fade up the title. Now I just did one using a cross dissolve from a black clip and out to a black clip, and it works smoothly. Three before that did the flare thing and I couldn’t get around it. This is so different a process from Media 100.
I hope this made some sense. Anyway, any ideas? Is there a simple good effective way to smoothly and cleanly fade in and out of titles? It can’t be that hard. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
