I realize that I might not have stated my issue as clearly as I could, and I can’t imagine there not being a way to address this in Premiere.

I basically need to “protect” an area of the screen from being keyed out. The desk, which is static and runs across the center of the screen, is absorbing some green that the keyer is grabbing on to.

I imagine in a worst case scenario I can duplicate the video layer, throw it on top, and crop out the rest of the image, but I thought there might be a better way to simply protect that part of the image using a matte or mask or something else. If I have to take the video route it will be quite tedious since there were multiple cameras and a lot of cuts.

    Hi Matt,

There may be an easy fix without having to set up Mattes or Masks. This will only apply if the cameras are locked down – if moving, then forget this method.

Use Frame Grab in Premiere to get a frame from the video, then go into Photoshop and “erase” everything but the desk, and save the .psd with transparent background. Bring that into Premiere and place over keyed video! I have done this to remove undesirable elements from a scene, should be invisible as long as lighting and camera position remain consistent.

    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the speaker’s hands cross the surface of the desk and move within it’s border. I don’t mind cutting a mask or matte if it can be done. I’m pretty quick at it. I just can’t figure out how to add that area to the area that is already being keyed out by UltraKey.

    Double up that layer.
Do not apply key to top layer.
