[avideditor420] “Has anyone left the cinewave and done the update to kona 2?
What are things to do and not to do?
When updating to OS 10.4 should we do a clean install or just an update?”
I dumped CineWave back in April of 2004 for Aurora and then to Kona 2 this past fall. Outstanding move to go to Kona 2.
When making the upgrade to OS 10.4, you really need to do a clean install. In fact, what I do is completely erase my drive and start all over when making a major OS upgrade. I did that for both of my Kona 2 systems and all is well so far. Basically install the OS, run all the updates, then install FCP and run all the updates. You should be good to go.
[avideditor420] “Will the cinewave media files play through the Kona 2 or do I need to reintall the CW drivers?”
The CineWave drivers won’t do anything but allow AE and Quicktime to view CineWave codec files. You should be able to play back CineWave files in a Sequence using the Kona 2Vuy codec. Just set up a standard Kona 8bit or 10bit Timeline, but then go into the Sequence Settings and change the codec to Kona 2Vuy. I haven’t tried this as all of my CineWave projects are so old I never use the files anymore, but it’s supposed to work.
