So amazingly Cinewave still seems to be working with all the latest Final Cut updates! I’ve been running our 2 ingest machines for a week now without seeing any problems.

    Caveats:

We do not use the cinewave codec at all – our machines capture from Digibeta over Component to either DV or DV50, and in PAL. Timecode seems to match perfectly too.

Your milage may vary – but amazingly it all seems to work and the captured files look good on our main AJA systems.

    Just thought I’d share…

    Detail:

    G4 1.42 GHZ DP
    Final Cut Pro 5.1.4
    OS 10.4.10
    Cinewave 4.7
    QT 7.1.6

Interesting. So perhaps there is still a point in putting my old Cinewave card on eBay then?!

I’ve got two of them plus the Pro D&A BOB, Pro Digital BOB and Pro Analog BOB. Have no clue what to do with them.

Dunno if I’d go that far! 🙂

We’re just squeezing the last we can from Cinewave – when we upgrade later this year I should think that’ll be the end of our G4’s and Cinewave.

The datestamp on the 4.7 installer is October 2004!

    I hear ya Simmie.

We have been trying to squeeze the last little bit of production java out of a TrueVision RTX 2000 video card. It does not work at all under OS X, only under 9.2.2. But atleast it can stay in the G4 while OS X is running and not get in the way of newer video goodies.

I wish someone would write an OS X friendly codec for the Targa family of video cards. I could then give the RTX 2000 a proper Viking funeral, and still maintain access to legacy video projects.

    Hi
I wish the code magician of MPEG Streamclip could find an abandoned PCI-X/PCI-e capture card to write drivers for – his DC30+ software (G4 Macs only) was amazing…

Prior to reading this thread i thought that i was the only one out here still using Cinewave on a G4, FCP 4.5. BUT I finally need/want to move to a G5. I have not dared to upgrade beyond 10.3.5 with my G4 as I believe that cinewave 4.6 “officially” wll not work with anything higher tnan 10.3.5) My questions, how (if at all) can I move to a latest and greatest G5 and somehow still access saved files captured using the cinewave codec? For the time being I am still shooting Beta SP and need a way to capture from component, which of course my current targa/BOB does perfectly.
