We just put our Cinewave edit suite to bed. I need to transfer certain projects over to the Kona editing suite. Question about the footage. Will the Cinewave footage playback on the timeline or is it best to go back and re-digitze, or just render the footage. Any other things we should look for?

    Thanks in advance.

Tom, I made the conversion over the summer from CineWave to Kona 2.

I did have to resurrect several CineWave captured projects thru the Kona 2. Although the AJAYUV codec is supposed to be CineWave friendly, I had inconsistent results. I most cases I just re-rendered the timeline to the Apple 10 bit codec with excellent results.

In one case, where the Kona 2 timeline had a multi-layered video effect, I got some video artifacts using the 10 bit codec after rendering. I re-set the video processing tab (Sequence settings) to an 8 bit render rather than 10 bit. (Remember, CineWave was an 8 bit codec, which is how my original footage had been captured) and this took, care of the artifacting.

All in all it was a pretty easy transition. Uninstalled the Cinewave software and card, install the Kona 2 card and software and away I went.

    Good Luck.

    Hi guys

Did an upgrade from FCP 4.5 to 5 + CineWave to Kona LS

Experienced an increase in contrast, when rendering using AJA Kona 2Vuy codec for the sequence

This affect any kind of render, either transition or filter

    System Info :

    PM G4 Dual 1.42Ghz
    1.5GB RAM
    Kona LS + KL Box
    ATTO UL3D

    OS X 10.3.9
    QT 7.0.3
    FCP 5.0.3
    AJA Kona LS 1.1.4
    ATTO 3.2.0 (for OS X 10.3.9)

May I know if there’s a workaround to this ?

    Cheers
