Cinestyle
I started using Cinestyle not long ago and I start to question if it’s really worth it on a 5D MKIII.
Lets first clear out that I UNDERSTAND how a flat video shot in raw will help in post.
But isn’t a flat “jpg-ish” video… just a flat jpg.
I mean, It’s not like you have the possibility to manipulate the waveform of each color in the picture, with a regular video format.
The contrast and color you loose flatting it down cannot be recovered, right??I’m not hating on Cinestyle, I just feel like my MkIII gave me more vivid and natural colors while filming in neutral.

To be clear, Cinestyle is not shooting RAW. If you want to shoot RAW video you have to use MagicLantern which works exceptionally well and gives you 14bit RAW cinemaDNG files. You can color correct to your hearts content afterwards as nothing is backed in like a RAW still.
Shooting flat gives you a little playing roomin the shadows and highlights when you color correct because you are not backing in a saturation.
