Cinestyle LUT import method?
Dear Cow Professionals,
Haven’t found a way to get LUT Buddy into AE/Premier 5.5. It installed into FCP 7 fine, but
doesn’t appear in any effects list/search in Adobe. Resolve and AE seem to want .cube files, but I
can’t find a way to convert the S-curve_for_CineStyle.lut. Tried to “export lut” from the “options”
dialog box while up in FCP7, but again, .cube is not an export option there from LUT Buddy. Just changing the .suffex is not functional. Late, thanks in advance for any help you can give…MLp.s. Macbook Pro 7.1, 8 GB ram, OSX 10.6.8, FCS3, CS5.5; that should be the pertinent facts…

Notes for newbies: “MacHD” means the actual hard drive your OS is on (NOT your customer-named drive with Documents and Downloads- it has a library too).
After the “License” step, it jumps past “Destination Select” to “Installation Type”, and “Back Up” doesn’t take you there either. It’s OK. Use the TINY up/down arrows in the “Location” column to access the options. A dialog box of presets opens, pick “other” at the top, and that will open up a customizable file pathway described in the thread: MacHDLibraryApplication SupportAdobeCommonPlug-insCS5.5CREATE FOLDER HERE“
Red Giant tech is getting back to me on how to “Export LUT” with a .cube suffex for AE/Resolve.

The s-curve provided by Technicolor for the Cinestyle is a .lut file and therefore in 1D(imensional) color space. LUT Buddy can only give you those options to convert to.
Hit “Convert”! Note the LUD is now 3D, 32-bit. GO BACK to “Export”, note ALL the 3D options.
Moral of the story: know your LUT color space…ML
