  • cinema tools “conform” button greyed out

Posted by Dale Larsen on February 4, 2011 at 5:20 am

I am in cinema tools attempting to change the frame rate of an HDV 1080i clip to 25 fr/sec

after import into Cinema Tools, the “conform” button and the reverse telecine button remain greyed out.

In the tutorial I am following they do not.

I find no mention in the manual that is helpful.
I see this mentioned in apple forums but never an answer.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this??
    Thanks

You need to convert your footage to a different codec before running it through Cinema Tools.
Long GOP formats, like HDV and XDCam, cannot be conformed. Use Compressor to convert your footage to ProRes first.

Yes, but he is not trying to conform per se, just change the Frame Rate as described in this tutorial:

Note this feature should really be an Intepret Footage like option direct in FCP…

Changing the frame rate.. as in “conform” it from one frame-rate to another.

Again… Cinema Tools cannot do this to Long-GOP codecs like HDV.
The OP needs to convert the footage to an intra-frame codec, like Prores, before he will be able to change the frame rate (or conform, per se) in Cinema Tools.

I agree though that this should be a function within FCP… Or FCP should at least better handle over-cranked footage… It currently butchers over-cranked footage unless “conformed” in Cinema Tools first.

Many people think they can simply drop 60fps footage onto a 30fps timeline and pull frame to frame 50% slo-mo… Unfortunately this is not the case…

I am shooting a Panny GH2; 720p/60. I am using ClipWrap to transcode to Apple ProRes422—yet I cannot conform these clips to another fps in Cinema Tools; the same problem: Conform is greyed out.

However, if I send a clip out through Compressor, the returned clip is able to be conformed by Cinema Tools.

Does this mean ClipWrap is not doing what it is supposed to do? Any other suggestions? TIA, kl

I have a similar problem. I’ve had a facility company provide Pro Res HQ 422 files from HD Cam SR 1080p 23.98fps masters. The files match the tape specs and have 12 full audio tracks. I want to conform to 25fps to synch with SD PAL foreign version mixes in FCP. When I open with Cinema Tools both the Conform and Rev TK options are greyed out. Anyone know why?

I’m using a Power Mac, Snow Leopard, Cinema Tools 4.0.1

    Thanks for any help.

Update – it turns out the files were read only. I’d cloned the originals and somehow the priviledges were changed. So, checking the Sharing & Permissions status could be worthwhile if you are having problems with greyed out Conform button.
