Cinema tools and FCP workflow for film project
Hello:
I am logging and capturing my Super 16mm short film
that has been telecine (MOS audio) to an HD
server at a local telecine house. I want to have the option of
going back to
film, however, a final HD master will be the final
product that will be done at the facility. The telecine facility gave me DVCAM dubs at
29.97-
letterboxed. They don’t use flx files tough and was
told that I have to manually enter this information in
CT.
What would be the workflow for this project without
flx files? Is it ok not to have flx files if I ever
want to go back to
film?-Would I capture at 29.97 DV capture present first?
***The producer at the facility mentioned to capture
clips according to camera rolls. There are 3 camera
rolls total,( 2 tapes) each approximately 25-30.
Whenever I try to capture these 3 clips I received a
drop frame warning, then I notice that the TC in the
window burns are different y 2 seconds in the viewer
window.– How and when in the workflow do you manually enter
the In point using the punch on the film? Is this done
after
digitizing? I thought that I would have to create a
CT database and
“manually” enter the information there. Is this
correct?– Also, after successfully capture in FCP should I
create a
new database in CT and import clean clips and have the
pulldown removal there?
Should it be at 24 fps or 23.98 fps?At what point in the process do I sync the sound files
to the MOS film? Do I need to re-import these clips to
CT and replace the older non sunc clips. The sound was
recorded at 30 fps while film was at 24fps. Do I just
need to speed up the sound by 0.1% or make it at 99%
speed?-How do I make sure I mantain a clean environment for
a final conform in HD?
– I assume that after all these is done I will create
a sequence at 23.98 and edit then.In your experience, is there anything else that I
need to consider while setting the FCP project,
sequence and timeline? The goal is to edit in FCP and
then go
back to the telecine facility with the sequence and
conform to HD
and have the film color correction then. The final
master will be in HD.Thanks in advance for your advice,
