September 14, 2007 at 7:47 pmFirestore is being connected to the camera and your computer via firewire which detects and flags those extra frames. When digitizing via SDI, there is no detection. you also have no way to digitize uncompressed 24PA footage via firewire, which has significant compression. The settings for our capturing were Blackmagic DV50, 23.98, Anamorphic with deck control via RS422 (9pin) at 29.97 (the only way to control the deck with 9 pin). I tested digitizing at 29.97 earlier today, but when tried to apply Remove Advance Pulldown under Tools, I got “File does not contain frames using Advanced Pulldown”. I am absolutely positive this footage is shot 24PA.
Thanks

September 14, 2007 at 8:05 pmThen try to do it in Cinema Tools over at page 211 for instruction.
But I think you are going to have to recapture the footage if it was captured at 23.98.

September 14, 2007 at 8:19 pmThanks for all your help Do you think, I will get screwed if i decide to batch capture whatever was cut thus far – cause of 23.98 digitizing, the right clips probably will never get pulled…- things are so easier with M100,

September 14, 2007 at 8:41 pmI just I would do a test, but the timecode may not match.
Don’t use M100 but I don’t know how easier it would be, 24pA definitely had firewire in mind when developed the use of it on a camera.

September 14, 2007 at 9:03 pmFirewire is a great thing, no doubt – our dvcpro hd deck AJ-HD150 doesn’t have firewire i/o . Also 10-bit uncompressed is not an option when you use firewire – the difference is dramatic, especially if you apply filters, importing, exporting your footage back and forth. Uncompressed captured via SDI or HD SDI just doesn’t deteriorates.

September 14, 2007 at 9:25 pmTrust me I know the difference in Codecs and have given the work-flow for using SDI capture.

September 15, 2007 at 5:13 pmThis thread was somewhat confusing and I want to make sure I understand what to do. We have just shot a music video on an SDX-900 in the 24PA mode and I have to capture it via SDI AJA Io.
So, let me make sure I have this clear and understood.
1) Capture using a 29.97 uncompressed 10-bit coded
2) throw the clips in Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown
3) take new clips and put them in a 23.98 sequence w/in FCPDoes that sound about right? There were too many people throwing out a number of different ideas and I want to make certain I understand exactly what to do as I DON’T want to capture all this beautiful footage via firewire. Thanks.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

September 15, 2007 at 5:30 pmSeth,
Thanks a million. This is exactly the answer I was looking for. Now, My question is what’s the exact procedure with Cinema Tools. I am a newbie in FCP. Someone mentioned even/odd field.
Thanks in advance.
