I haven’t found the C4D renderer to be that slow. For me, the question is more about the toolset: do I want to use Ae’s design tools for a particular job, or do I want to use C4D’s design tools?
Two thoughts on speed:
1) The C4D renderer may be slower than most Ae artists are used to. Real 3D gets pretty heavy, when compared with 2D or 2.5D.
2) Working with the C4D renderer in Ae may feel less responsive than working in C4D, because C4D has a separate viewport renderer and the production renderer. You can use Ae’s Fast Draft preview mode for layout and toggle back and forth to the real renderer to check the look.
