Im working on a project now, and I need to add one of those old time ‘cigarette burn’ effects on the film. Where a small hole burns and works its way out, similar to old westerns and the burning wanted sign with the branding iron. I was actually considering filming the real thing and destroying some film my self. But I wanted to try after effects first. I know there are some great plug-ins out there and thought this would be the place to find out.

    Hi Dan,

After Effects has an plug-in called CC Burn Film.

While it’s parameters are limited, it creates the basic effect pretty well. You can play around with the seed to get some variations.

    Good luck,

    Bob

This After Effects Community Help search for ‘burn film’ pulls up some useful resources, including some threads here on the COW in which people give some advice about how to create such a result.
