ello everybody. I’m working on a film project and we just got CHV Electronics’ Repair Collection, which included the dead pixel fixer. We tried the Demo and it worked great, so we got it. Now that we have it, it’s not so smooth. For those who may not know how it works, you have to select the entire dead pixel up to 16 x 16, and once you do, it samples color from all around the area to fix it.

Anyhoo, now, once I select around the pixel, it disappears as it should, until I render it, and then it re-appears, and I can’t figure it out. Any help from any previous users? Thanks all!

You might want to move the selected area a tiny amount up or down, then re-render.
If that doesn’t help, select a slightly LARGER area to cover and re-render.

If all else fails, you might want to trash your FCP Preferences (use FCP Rescue See below) then open the project and re-render.

A great way to trash FCP Preferences is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Thanks! I tried selecting a larger area and it worked. Thanks for your help!

    Hey Louie,

Does Dead Pixel have to be applied frame-by-frame or can you apply it to an entire clip or even better an entire timeline? We shot a couple of shows for a travel series that I have and one of the pixels is dead in exactly the same place throughout all of the footage. We need to fix this dead pixel, and I’m hoping this program works and can be applied to the entire timeline. I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!! -Jeffrey
