  • Chrome on flat faces of text

I’m trying to make some super-shiny chrome text, and while the edges and curves look good, the flat faces look pretty, well, flat. I am using an HDR in the environment channel and it gives good results, except on the flat faces of the text. Any tips on pepping up those flat sides? All of the tutorials and files I have found online deal with curved or shaped surfaces, not flat ones. Any tips appreciated…

    Thanks,

    Steven Jenkins

Create lightpanes with luminous materials or whatever geometry you deem suitable and place it in front of your text, but invisible to the camera. Also add the tiniest amount of bumpmap to make the surface less regular.

    Hi guys-
This is why I love the COW! I am tackling the same issue.

    Mylenium-
Your suggestions are right on the money, but how do I go about making an object invisible to the camera, but visible to objects in the scene for reflections?

    Thanks!
    Jason

Select the object you want to be invisible to the camera, add a compositing tab (objects pane: File:Cinema4dTags: Compositing) select the compositing tab and leave everything checked except “seen by camera”…
