Chroma/Saturation Limits for Computer/Web Playback?
Is there a computer/web equivalent of broadcast safe limits for chroma and saturation?
I am preparing an H.264 encode for computer/web viewing. Luma was adjusted to reduce the white point, and the Video Limiter effect was applied with Luma limits of 0% and 100%. As a result, the maximum Y-value is below 100 IRE, although there are a few points where the minimum drops below 0 IRE.
Chroma min/max was set to -20%/120% using the Video Limiter effect. There are a couple of points in the encoded video where saturation is pretty high (see image below). Should I reduce the Chroma limits to 0% and 100%? This tends to clip RGB values around 95 IRE. Alternatively, I could just desaturate the problem clips. Any thoughts?

For web? No. Limits were originally in place to remove the possibility of interference/crosstalk in an over-the-air broadcast signal.
Of course, if you boost anything to the point of clipping to 100% (in the case of your red channel) then you’ll lose detail. If you can dial back saturation to retain definition, it may be worth the adjustment.
