    Ladies, gentlemen,

I’m currently working on a project which involves quite a bit of chromakeying. Now, maybe its me, but 5 years ago I worked quite a lot with Digisuite hardware and Edit software and phew the chromakeyers in that setup were excellent! Maybe I’m doing something wrong here, but I’m not really satisfied with the chromakeyers in Sony Vegas Video. I never succeed in completely removing the background, there’s always the little outline that remains. I’m more or less using the same lighting setup as 5 years ago, including a toplight.

Am I the only one and/or am I doing something wrong? Anyone using other software chromakeyers that I should look at? Any ideas here?

    Thanks a million in advance.

Mmm, putting a Gaussian blur on the blue channel only before chroma blur and chroma keying makes quite an impressive difference.

Let’s see what else can be done.

Hi Barend, UltraKey is the ultimate in chromakeying in my opinion, my best video product purchase next to Vegas. It’s a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. Love the 3D Virtual Sets you can place your talent in, and if you have a 3D animation package that exports in .smv format you can create your own 3D worlds and not have to rely on theirs. A VERY powerful tool!! Having said that I’ve never had trouble with Chromakeying in Vegas, it’s stil my NLE of choice. But for super simple and professional looking green screen footage, UltraKey is my tool of choice. Check it out here, https://www.seriousmagic.com/products/ultra/index.cfm free downloadable demo as well. Fully functional, only leaves a watermark on your video, but you get a chance to use it and see how easy it is.

A second kudos for Ultra 2. We just purchased it last week for a big project with over a hundred scenes needing keying. I started with just Vegas but was disappointed with the results. I’ve keyed with Vegas before and have gotten a few really good keys but it seems that you really have to have a near perfect background.

With Ultra, in less than a minute I did a key that was unbelievable considering the backdrop was wrinkled and uneven. The amount of tweaking you have available really makes a difference and I highly recommend it if you do a lot of green or blue screen.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ll take a serious look then at serious magic’s Ultra 2.

    Much obliged,
