Chroma Keying Question
So I recently shot a scene for a short film which involved some creative use of chroma keying. The scene is an opening montage which shows numerous drug deals being made in various parts of the city.
Each time the “substance” is shown being handed from the dealer to the buyer the frame freezes and a white flashframe transition and a camera shutter sound occurs. From the white flash transition, the next clip shows the frozen frame on a 3X5 photo being set down by an arm on a black table along with other random documents and police objects. (gun, badge, etc) The scene then goes wide and to show a narcotics officer obviously at his “drug sting” headquarters, going over pictures and documents on the dealer he is trying to bring down.
To execute this effect, I printed actual 3X5 pictures of just chroma green and keyed out the green and added the frozen frame as if it was a picture the officer had taken. The effect look good so far, I just need to fine tune it.
Directly after the white frame, the narcotics officer’s arm is being shown putting the 3X5 onto the table, this is where I am having a bit of trouble. Once the 3X5 is on the table it looks great but while it is in motion on the way down to the table, I cant seem to make it look right. I tried keyframing the motion and size for each individual frame so it looks like an actual photo but it just doesn’t look right while going down towards the table. Is there a way to keep what you want to key confined to the size of the actual green area so it keeps the same ratio?
