I have an image that I want one are to be transparent to allow video to show through, on that same image I also want a part of it to be a different video (in this case background effect)…I can get one or the other but I can’t figure out how to do both.

    thanks.

I’m not sure I’m following. If you have a transparent image, whatever is below will show through. If you add a Chroma Key, you can make a color transparent so whatever is below will show through. If you want a second item to show through, that area will need to be transparent on BOTH of the top two tracks or you will need to do something similar to the text compositing found in Vol 2 #5 of my newsletters (link below my name)

It’s not transparent…I need it to be transparent. (I’m still at Vegas 4 but it wouldn’t let me bring a gif in)

What I have is an image with the person swoosh logo which runs along the top and down the side. I want that to be on top of all the video footage throughout. I also want to put some animation to the swoosh. I can figure out how to do one or the other but not both.

Is that more clear? Sorry, it’s kind of hard to describe.

Vegas 4 should work with GIF just fine. I’m still not quite sure what you’re getting at. Can you e-mail a sample of each individual piece?

It sounds like you need to split your “person swoosh logo” into separate graphics which you can then put on their own track and animate separately.

Alternatively, you could duplicate the graphic on a separate track (above the unchanging image) and use the cookie cutter plugin to isolate the section you want to change (I think this is what Edward’s article discusses if I remember correctly).

BTW, .Gif or .Png graphics files will allow you to save transparency.

Not sure what I did the first time, but yes I can get the transparent gif in fine…

The main deal is I have one image with two different areas I want two different videos to show through.

Thanks, I will send you the gif.

The solution has been sent to you. Basically you needed to change the “Red” in your image to “White” giving you a black and white image. I then used the “split screen” techniques illustrated in Vol 3 #1 of my newsletter to get the desired results. Check your e-mail for the modified image and a sample project file.
