Well my problem is with the video playback when I’m trying to edit a video in sony vegas pro 9. My video even, on the lowest playback setting, is extremely choppy and extremely hard to edit. I am editing 720p HD video recorded from a kodak zi6. My laptop specs are…

    Asus K70AB
    AMD Turion RM75
    4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570; VRAM 512MB

Can someone explain if my specs are the issue, or if it’s something else.

Make sure that your project is set to match your media settings (720p). This can have a big impact on playback. If you recorded at 60fps stop doing that. 30fps is plenty and will play back much smoother. Vegas Pro 10 handles this footage much better than 9 does. I would download the trial of 10 and see if it makes a significant difference. If it does, that would be the easiest fix.

I can playback and edit Kodak Zi8 footage very smoothly on my old QuadCore 2.67Ghz with Vegas Pro 10a. You really need a QuadCore to work with AVC/h.264 and Vegas Pro 10 is optimized for this format now.

Well… I downloaded vegas 10a and it somewhat fixed my problem. If I have the quality set to good or less then it works fine. Even if I set it at a high res it’s still a lot less laggy the the version of 9 I’ve been using. Looks like I needa buy 10. Thanks for the help guys!

Sony has really been working on optimizing these new camera formats so it makes sense to stay at the most current levels of software to get the latest benefits. Glad I could help.
