  • Choppy Animation file playback FCP 6.0.2

Posted by Tom Morris on January 21, 2008 at 9:16 pm

I am having issues playing back After Effects Rendered animation files in the new version of FCP 6.0.2. These were graphics Render animation millions of colors+ in After Effects. (1280×720 23.98). They have been used in FCP 5.1.4 with no playback problems. I have since upgraded to FCP 6.0.2 and the files now play back choppy as if they had 3:2 pulldown applied to them. I have check and am certain that they were not rendered with 3:2 pulldown. The odd thing about these files is that they contain an alpha channel and the 720p video that plays underneath the graphics plays smoothly. I have tried new projects, new sequences, new renders out of AE to no avail. I am hoping someone has run across this and has some sort of solution. Thank you in advance for any help.

did you check to make sure the sequence didn’t change to “animation?”

Having the same issue here. Looks like a pulldown is being automatically added. Doesn’t seem to happen with all AE exports so i’m looking for any codec differences. It may have something to do with the alpha… ideas?

Anyone ever come up with something regarding this? Having the same issue, whats really odd is it plays fine in my source monitor, but once put in ANY timeline no matter that the settings it creates a very jerky animation….any help would be appreciated.

we fixed the problem by syncing workstation codecs. AE on the PC was exporting with X version, FCP on the MAC was using Y.
