    Gang,
I’m working with another editor who’s using Vegas. We’re both digitizing our own footage. I’m capturing entire tapes (resulting in one big media file) and his program is breaking the tapes up into multiple media files. In order for us to share media files consistently, I’d like to break up my big media files into smaller media files.

I assumed that Media Manager was the way to go, but with some trial and error, and referring to the manual, I can’t seem to do it. My process is:

    1) Detect start/stop points on the one big media file
    2) Creating subclips based on the markers
    3) Using Media Manager to turn those subclips into their own media files

Step 3 is where I get stuck. It always results in multiple clips referrencing the one big media file (just like it is now).

Is this even possible? I know that I can go the manual route and log the tape before batch capturing, but I was hoping there was an automated solution. If Vegas can do it, why can’t FCP? Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

mmmm…. Just a theory, all the sub clips have continus timecode from one clip to the next. In an effort to be effecient Media manager sees them as one clip. To separate them out select every other clip, place them in a separate bin and media manage in 2 steps. first the odds then the evens, Not glamorous but it works.
