June 1, 2009 at 1:34 pmWe are currently running all 8 of our FCP suites with the 2 x Samsung 223BW’s in dual head configuration. These are very close to the 225’s you’ve listed, and to be honest we are really happy with them. So I can recommend the Samsungs. It is down to personal choice but the editors are pleased with them.

June 1, 2009 at 2:50 pmDon’t forget that you need a broadcast monitor in addition to the computer monitor.

June 1, 2009 at 5:21 pmThe Majority of our suites are set up with a combination of Apple Monitors and one suite is set up with a Dell UltraSharp 20 & 24 combo. I personally own a Dell UltraSharp combination as well and like working with them all.

June 2, 2009 at 5:03 amsamsung & LG both make great screens. they also make the panels for apple displays & laptops. I’m using a MXO2 to feed a samsung T220HD monitor and I’m happy with it. the “broadcast” sony 1984Q CRT is now in the B room. before folks get too hung up, the LCD’s that are out there are really very good. sure there is _some_ difference between a $4k and a $300 display, but not that much…. until you get into the crazy money. with 10bit consumer displays starting to appear, there may not be any real difference. of course with the MXO2 I can tweak out the look from its control panel… enough so that I felt comfortable getting rid of the CRT display.

June 2, 2009 at 10:23 amThere are some great “broadcast spec” monitors out there now. LCD technology is starting to play catch up with CRT specs. They are nearly there. Not 100% yet but very close. We use the Sony BVM-L230’s, but at £16K they are out of most peoples reach. The TV Logic XVM-245W is also very good, although we don’t use these at present, coming in at £12K. This is an ever developing market and I’m sure the prices will drop accordingly as the technology advances.

June 2, 2009 at 12:36 pmFor computer monitors I recommend the Dell 24″ models.
For broadcast / film reference I recommend the Flanders Scientific (FSI) monitors.
