  • Choosing the General Project Settings for unknown inputs and outputs

Let’s say we’re starting a new project in PP 2.0. If I know what footage I’ll be using and know the output I desire, the Project Settings are pretty straight forward.

Although I pretty much HAVE to pick an aspect ratio upfront (assume 4:3 for this example), let’s say I don’t know what inputs I’ll be using. Maybe some hi-res stills, miscellaneous footage and video clips with various resolutions and frame rates. Plus, I also don’t know what my output(s) might be. The customer might want an 800×600 WMV file AND a DVD ISO. Since I can never go “up” in resolution and speed but can always go down, should I just start with very “grand” project settings? Say, Desktop Editing Mode, 60 fps Timebase, 1024×768 resolution, Square Pixels, No Fields (Progressive), 60 fps Timecode Display Format. I realize these settings would slow down my renders, but it should give me a baseline where I can input and output just about anything. Correct?

    Thoughts? Opinions? Recommendations? Thanks!
