Chest Mounted shots of actor
I was wondering how to create a mount for a shot where the camera is pointed straight back at the actor where their body stays the same in the frame but the background moves around when they move. I’ve seen it in several movies but can’t remember which ones and for the life of me I can’t seem to find any examples of the shot or how to make a rig to get the shot anywhere. Anyone have any ideas or some examples for me?

We built our own a few years ago. It started with a heavy-duty backpack frame that we bought from REI and then cannibalized. The struts were made from electrical conduit. It was pretty sturdy, it was able to hold a pretty heavy 35mm film camera out pretty far behind the actor. Out in front of him were counterweights, camera battery, and monitor. The only expensive part was building the body harness, which was still only a couple of hundred bucks. The rest was probably less than a hundred bucks worth of stuff from Home Depot.
I’ll look for a picture of the one I built… it no longer exists in whole, we dismantled it to reuse the parts years ago.
