    Hi All,

i just bought me a new display and thought of removing my tv-set..

well, a problem showed up: conversion created a field mush i saw on the final dvd –
    i couldn’t tell in FCP..

well, i know that it’s not a problem to check with a tv-set, but there was a trick in
AE, when you set project frame rate to 50 (PAL-land), you could step through the single
fields and therefor tell if it was upper or lower.

is there any comparable trick inside FCP???
i can’t set fps as i’d like to, and don’t know how to step through the fields..

    and another thing:
with my interlaced fx1 footage i could tell in AE that it was 12,5 and not 25fps – getting
a pretty good slomotion when scaled don to SD….(AE took every field as an
individual frame) Is this possible in FCP too??

    thanx

If you set your Canvas to 100%, you can see both fields. Would this take care of your problem?

Never get rid of a TV set without replacing the set with a video monitor… A pretty keen solution is a Matrox MXO, which will convert a 23″ Cinema Display to a calibrated video monitor, but without it, you can’t see the end result at all.

    hi,

no that doesn’t solve the problem, i can see the fields, but i cant tell whether there’s
    a field mush or not….

problem arises when you convert a say a BMD-PAL File (SD-Upper) and convert it with
compressor to dv (PAL-lower) the QT thinks it’s lower field now, but in fact it’s
    a DV-PAL with upper field first..(which doesn’t exist in real life…)

just wanted to know if one acn step through the single fields in FCP to check the field order
    of the file..

    thanx

Nope, you can’t step through fields in FCP. If you have After Effects, you could do it there.
