  • Checkin out D5 footage?

Posted by Al J. marschke on June 6, 2010 at 10:49 am

Can anyone direct me to a place where I can download a native file from a D5 recording? I’d like to check it out in FCP.

    Thanks,

    Sure.

    File should be up at:

Remember, this is native H264 from the camera. A fast mac with FCP *can* edit and work with it natively, but the process will be much less processor intensive and smoother if you transcode to ProRez 422 before you attempt to work with the file.

    Good luck.

Also H264 should never be used in editing, especially FCP. In FCP you will never see the true quality because it is not a real time codec. Also the codec does not handle video filters very well, take a look at the shootout videos at Zacuto.com and Gary Adcock’s commend in 3rd video. Unless you are going a quick edit for something and don’t plan on doing any color correcting, you have never your the native H264, even with the new bread of apps, like CS5 and Avid that are made to handle them.

If you are testing out the footage to see what it can do, do yourself a favor and transcode it.

Or go to any camera shop with your own CF card and shoot some footage you can take back home and play with- that’s more interactive…

    Al,

It appears that I have to send this link to SOMEONE for it to remain on the file server.

If you want to respond with an email addy, I’ll post the link directly to that address.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Actually, I think sending it to myself worked to keep it on the board.

    Try this new link:
    files.me.com/davisbill/znvt5l.mov

Let me know if it works
