As has been said here, cool idea, but the price is ridiculous.

    Have a wonderful day.

Yeah, after looking at it more, definitely NOT a “must-have” for Mac owners. There are many better ways to spend your money for storage.

I think its a good new idea, but I don’t think I would buy one even if it was a Fiber Channel array. I’m I the only one who thinks it destroys the beautiful design of the G5 tower. I just can’t imagine how much it must weight. I’m with Walter on this one: spend your money on the new G-Speed or any other Fiber array.

I understand the opinions of everyone regarding this drive. i just so happened to meet the guy in the APPLE store and he showed me his product because i was talking to on the MAC geniuses about my XSERVE RAID, and he showed me his drive. I told him that i could get him some immediate exposure by posting it on the COW, and i wanted some honest feedback from the group.

Fantastic idea. Too expensive. Way too expensive. But I’m sure he needs to charge that much since making it looks very expensive to make. If it had built-in hardware RAID-5, that would help justify the cost. But it would only help a little. It’s still way too much money.

Sonnet has new SATA-II cards that support port multipliers. That’s TWENTY off-the-shelf, dirt-cheap OEM drives stripped together and it only takes up one card slot. Not as pretty looking, but it’s without a doubt the fastest disk drive solution available on a Mac. And for hardly any money. For those who want localized storage, the new Sonnet cards are a no-brainer if you ask me. Nothing else even comes close.
