cheap p2 hvx 200?
Posted by Eric Oliver on May 17, 2007 at 11:25 amcurious if anyone’s heard about a company called one way photo…they’re selling 200’s for under $2000…supposedly new. Before I buy I’m wondering–what’s the catch?

May 17, 2007 at 1:17 pmThe camera may come without a battery, AC Adapter…ANY accessories. IF it is too good to be true, it usually is.
Buy from reputable dealers…not unheard of places.

May 17, 2007 at 1:24 pmThey are not an authorized Panny dealer and are probably selling gray-market stuff. Stay very far away from them!

May 17, 2007 at 2:39 pmI’ve had this question asked to me a couple of times.
I get a kick out of telling them to call the company and ask them some technical questions about the camera. There have been some great replies. My favorite was the guy who answered the phone by saying, “What do you want?”
It is possible that you might acutally get a camera if you ordered from someone like this. It’s also possible that you might get the same camera that you ordered. But the company will most likely just charge your credit card and wait for you to see how long they can hold you off before you cancel the order.
Who knows what happens to your credit card number after that?
If it’s too good to be true, it is.

May 17, 2007 at 6:57 pmthe cameraprofessinals.com are doing the same thing, but there prices change every hour or two. So I called them, and what sounded like an 18 year old kid answers the phone, smacking on gum and probably picking his nose..I asked about the influx in price change and his response was ” “Well we buy so so so much that we can sell it to you so so so cheap”…verbatim…… RRRIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!.. Anyway don’t do it.if your looking for a place with good prices and customer service try Broadway photo and Video, i bought a XL1s from them 5 years ago and they really did a good job on price and service……I don;t work for broadway , never have, never will, but i thought this might help you out….
Good Luck

May 18, 2007 at 5:09 pmI’ve done business with Broadway both over the phone and in there NY store. I got what I paid for because I was careful. They are like the others who do the grey market and bait and switch routines. BE CAREFUL. If you want the best guarantee I suggest B&H Photo and Adorama. They are reputable and honest. They are also very competetive with regards to price.

May 22, 2007 at 3:26 pmabsolutely not–my dad bought me a Nikon D200 from this company as a graduation present because their prices were so cheap, but it’s turned out to be a horrible company.
Here’s part of our complaint letter:
1. I ordered the Nikon D200 W/Advanced Package (containing the Nikon 28-80mm f3.5-5.6 & the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Auto Focus Lenses) with 3-day shipping on April 27, 2007. I received a package on May 9, 2007 with several items missing (for which I sent an email followed by a telephone call to Mr.—–).
A. The body of the Nikon D200 was in an open box and did not have the company seal.
B. The Nikon 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Auto Focus Lens was not present and was missing from the package.
C. The 1 GB High Speed Compact Flash Card was missing from the package.
D. The Deluxe Lens and Camera Maintenance Kit was also missing.
E. On the Deluxe Camera Case, both plastic clips broke in less than one week of use.2. The package we received the evening of Tuesday, May 15, 2007 contained a Nikon 18-55mm DX Lens: a cheaper lens than what the package promised.
3. There was a miss presentation and additional pressure to make the sale by Salesperson Mr.—–. His comments were that -

May 31, 2007 at 4:50 amYea,
I got taken by FotoConnection in Brooklyn, NY. The camera was from some foreign market (this is called “gray market”) and it was inferior quailty to the US version. It was not the metal housing and the noise from the zoom servo was so loud the mic picked it up significantly. Panasonic knows about this issue (but they wont do a recall) and the gray markets are louder that the US model b/c of the thin plastic housing. I dont thing the workaround of “use a boom mic” is an adequate solution to a known technical/mechanical problem. Also of note, some web sites that rate the brooklyn (crooklyn) companies from customer feedback are owned by individuals in NY (search WHOIS db). Many of the posts are fake and to make a post you need to give discreet information like address and “personal security questions”
BEWARE, all electronics makers make low end versions of their US one’s (Sony, Pana and Canon). They have different versions for different markets. They do very little to educate the consumers about this b/c to them a sale is a sale.
Remember Caveat Emporeum: The Buyer Beware.
