Has anyone seen the Charles Schwab tv commercials with the cartoon effect? By the looks of that it is either a plugin, effect or manipulation of the footage. Does anyone know if there is something in premiere pro that can be done to simulate that or something like that?

    Great effect.

    Really? …I think they’re creepy.

    …anyway. Sorry. Couldn’t help myself.

I wonder if these are rotoscoped, at least to a degree. The lines are awfully solid and the tonal reduction seems a bit too perfect for any filter or plugin that I’m aware of…but I’m far from the most knowledgeable person I know on plugins, though I’d guess it’s more of an AE or combustion thing than something done in an NLE.

I’d be interested on hearing something from someone who knows as well. I’ve looked at these pretty hard for some telltale sign of how it was done.

I would have thought that someone who frequents the forum would have some idea or contact with whomever is doing the Schwab ads. Now that there is a secone one running it easier to see the quality of the work. Due to the smoothness, It is probably NOT a manual frame by frame rotoscope.
I see this effect has now shown up as a single frame cartoon drawing on the Nov. 21 episode of Las Vegas. In this case, these are stills that look like they are redrawn by an artist.
Is there another COW forum that may be more appropriate for this thread — After Effects perhaps?
