  • Charge for rendering time?

    Users,

Do you have any advice on charging or partially billing for rendering or encoding time for a project? Do you build it into the project cost, or add a technology fee? Do you charge at all?

What methods do you have or suggestions- any advice appreciated!
    Thanks,

it should be included in the project cost at the beginning.

if this is a change to the original agreement… like everything was approved, you provided the final agreed upon piece or pieces, but then they want a change… then you may charge extra for something like that.

if that’s the case, then you should consider what the cost is to you. if it won’t bee too hard or back up other work that you have going on, then you might not charge much, or any at all, if you think it will get them to come back to you.

if it is going to back up other projects, then they have to be aware that this is going to cost you time and money, and they will need to pay extra…

I don’t usually charge for rendering since it’s based largely on how fast your computer is, however if I know a project is going to take extremely long to render, I will factor it into the quote.

I typically don’t charge by the hour, I more or less have a rough estimate for an hourly rate, but I give quotes based on individual projects and what is required to achieve it. This allows me more time to experiment with different effects and techniques without being on a strict timetable to deliver exactly what the client wanted in the shortest amount of time.
