The company I work for is looking into possibly getting some animation software. We’ve used AE in the past for this, but I was wondering if anyone out there uses other programs. I looked into Toon Boom Studio and Bauhaus’s Mirrage. Toon Boom looked pretty cool and easy to use but Mirage didn’t impress me at all. We mainly use AE for our commercials and only do zany character animation once in a while. I guess my question is, do any of you AE gurus have any use for animation software, or can you get by with using AE? Again, we’re not producing whole TV shows here, just little animated characters and so on for commercials. Thanks for your thoughts.

    * Macromedia – Ahem, Adobe – Flash (obviously)
    * Moho by Lost Marble (Inverse Kinematics in 2D!)
    * Plastic Animation Paper (not really for character work, but great nevertheless!)
    * Any of the main 3D apps (obviously). Personlly I recommend XSI, it is especially powerful for character work and has some nice built-in models, rigs and animations (check out the Net View).
    * Poser (well, not really, but it has some nifty built-in walk and run cycles you can render flat and use, say, in AE)

    Good luck,
