    Hi People

I did a couple of character animations in AE, but I am starting to think that it might be faster and more efficient to do them in Flash.

    What do you think?

    Depends on what you want.
Flash now has Inverse Kinematics https://www.adobe.com/products/flash/features/?view=topnew. AE’s puppet tool is similar, but the results are less predictable, and has a more organic feel with the way it deforms.
But that’s irrelevant if you’re doing cel animation. Flash has onion skinning, AE doesn’t, so I think Flash would be the better choice for that.

You can do inverse kinematics in AE too…it’s just a bit complicated.

Yeah I notice the IK in AE is under-developed… sadly. Perhaps CS5 😉
Until then Flash will have to do.

Are there any good books on that?

Lynda.com has a “class?” on animating characters. …. After Effects CS3: Animating Characters

I just had to do about 5 minutes of character animation for a project and the lynda.com training was helpful. Good Luck!
