Chaning SD timeline to HD
I’ve got a yearly project that I work on for my employer that slowly evolves over time (shot updates, gfx). I’ve been shooting HD for 3 years now with the Sony EX1. Prior to that, everything was SD, tape based. I’ve been updating an SD timeline with HD clips by dropping the HD (1080) clips onto the timeline and scaling them UP to 50%, which effectively makes them 4×3 by cropping off the sides.
I’m at the point to where I’m ready to make the timelines fully HD. To do it, I created a new HD timeline and copied the specs (such as frames size, pixel aspect ratio, field dominance and compressor settings) over to the SD timeline. I though I could then simply scale the clips up to 100 percent and I’ve got a fully HD timeline. The problem is when I do this, the HD clips are slightly squished vertically so they don’t fully fill the HD space from top to bottom. The only way to make them fit is to manually adjust each clip. There’s gotta be an easier way to change these timelines without having to basically rebuild from scratch, isn’t there? Please?
