changing timeline track order…
i may just be losing my mind, but i seem to remember back when i used Avid that there was a way to change the order of your video tracks. So you could move track 1 to where track 3 was, etc.
Is there such a function in FCP?
I know i can add a new track and then move the contents, but sometimes you just want to shift the whole track…
I can’t find it mentioned in any of the manuals or any of the other software manuals i have…so maybe i am imagining it! or maybe i’m getting confused with ProTools (cos it does work in here) but thats a whole other bucket of squid guts.
Oh yeah, its friday as well, so maybe my mind has just frazzled!

You can use the track selection tool to select all the clips on a track, and then just drag the clips where you want to go. Just type the letter t repeatedly to cycle through the options for the track selector.

thanks Arnie, i knew that method…i just wondered if there was a quicker easier way with less risk of clips in a long timeline slipping sync.

fcp is the only nle that doesn’t do this

Holding shift as you move clips from track to track keeps them from moving horizontally. I thought everyone knew that one. But a good thing to know.

Lightning Ad- You probably know this but hold down the ‘shift’ key when you drag to the new track and everything will stay in synch.

thanks all – correct, i did know the shift method, but i was merely looking for a quicker and easier way to move a track without having to select everything first.
