Changing the Sequence(Project?) Length
Posted by Benj Roche on March 23, 2012 at 6:35 amHi I am finally trying out FCP X on a project. I have my sequence – I think its called Project now – open and I have added some clips and audio.
I am not sure why it chose this (arbitrary) length but how do I make it longer? I am unable to add more clips to the end of the timeline – the just try to superimpose over each other.

January 7, 2013 at 9:25 pmI have an issue where the end of my project is greyed out with diagonal lines. There is an arrow pointing to the beginning of the project with a line going straight down ( located in the area where it tells you the length of the project) Everything to the right side of that line has these diagonal lines. It looks to me like if I export my project it may not include the stuff on the right side.
How can I adjust this marker?

January 7, 2013 at 9:30 pmYou’re not editing in a project. You’ve opened a clip into the timeline and are editing inside the clip.
Press Cmd-N to make a new project and copy and paste into the project.
All the best,
Tom

April 29, 2013 at 1:24 pmIs there a way to just make the clip longer so that clips can be added into the compound clip? I have one long project that needs to be edited and exported into completely separate segments. This is the best way that I have found to do this, but if you have a better way I am definitely open to it!

March 6, 2020 at 9:45 amYou can easily set the timeline/project duration, placing the playhead wherever you want in the timeline, according to the lenght you desire, then press Opt+W to create a Gap (a grey empty space).
You can also trim the gap or every other clip to the playhead position, using Opt+\
