Changing the selected audio track on multiple timelines through a menu button on Bluray
Attempting to make a Blu-ray with multiple episodes on it in Encore CS6 that will have the option of selecting either 5.1 surround or Stereo audio with DV. The client wants only one main menu, where at the bottom you would select either 5.1 or DV, then after selecting that select the episode you want to play. So selecting DV, for example, would set all timelines to play with the DV track. I know how to set buttons on the menu to select one track or the other if we just had one timeline, but is there a way to set all timelines on the disk at once to switch audio tracks, with one button?

The first landing menu, as pictured above, would be your “stereo with DV” menu. So clicking that button would simply reset the menu with “Ep 1” highlighted. All links on this menu go to the respective timelines with Stereo audio selected. The “5.1” button would go to a second, identical menu. On this menu, all “Ep” buttons would link to a playlist of timelines with these set to play the 5.1 audio. In this way you do not double the amount of space used on the disc (although you could duplicate the timelines if you have space). The playlist will allow you to set the audio to be played and have end actions to return to the 5.1 menu. Also on this “5.1”menu the “stereo” button would link to the first original menu.

I think the simple answer is that, yes, all timelines will follow the selection you make. No special timeline by timeline menus needed for that.
For each timeline, you have 2 audio tracks, stereo and 5.1. Make sure Track 1 is always stereo (or vice versa). The player doesn’t know 5.1 vs stereo; it knows Audio Track 1 and Track 2. You can set a default for the project, so say it will play stereo (Track 1) unless the user changes it.
It is usual to have a separate submenu for the audio selection. You might do it as you lay it out, but it is simply to understand if you use the submenu. I do not recall whether Encore will always allow the “resume” option if you use this through a popup mid movie. When you go to that menu and click 5.1 (selecting Track 2 as the audio to now play), it changes the audio track to be used for the rest of the project. Whatever timeline you then select from any menu, it will play Track 2.

I usually do a submenu or separate buttons for audio selections but sadly the client really wants it this way, with only one menu, and the buttons like the diagram I posted. I think i’ll have to end up doing it like Ricky posted, where it actually directs to different menus, but it looks like one menu.

I’m sure Stan’s way would work. The only reason I said to do it that way is because I am a control freak and I want to know it does what I want it to do with all players including software on computers … but takes longer to author and being much more involved than Stan’s method.
