I didn’t realize before i started working that the frame size i was using was a massive custom size! of course when i change the frame size now, the frame shrinks but the contents stay the same. How do i fix this problem without having to resize each individual element?

you could move the large comp into a new comp that is the correct size, then scale the large comp to fit. this should maintain all the layer positions relative to the large comp.

you may also be able to change the comp size of the large comp, create a new null (layer>new>null) then temporarily parent all layers to the null (select all the layers, the use the parenting pick whip attach them to the null) and adjust the scale of the null to fit all the layers in the new comp size. then you can delete the null.

Assuming your current comp is the same aspect ratio (4×3 or 16×9, etc) as what you desire, you could also run the “scalecomp” action script. This works pretty well and does all the scaling for you without the “null object”.

click on “File”, then “Scripts\Run Script File…”

The action script is in “scripts\(demos)” folder in your AE folder.

    Cheers!

Or … if all the layers are 3D, you could reduce the focal length of your 3D camera.
