  • Changing TC in FCP7 Doesn’t alter first 2 digits.

Posted by Dan Mcguire on October 10, 2017 at 9:21 pm

I tried to change the TC of some HD QT files to match the SD versions using FCP7.

Oddly, it does not seem to change the first 2 digits of the TC, only the minutes/seconds/frames. The first 2 digits of the HD file’s TC is 24. It needs to be 00:

    I’ve attached a screen capture.

So, a time code of 24:01:34:10 needs to change to 00:01:34:10. Suggestions? FCP doesn’t want to do it.

    Thanks

Wow – this is very strange:
I can change the HD TC from 24: 01:, but then when I try to change it from 01: to 00: it goes back to 24: !

    Curiouser…

I meant to say – I can change the TC in the QT file from 24: to 01:, but then, when I try to change it back from 01: to 00:, it changes to 24: instead.

the other odd thing is that, in the FCP program, the HD files with 24: as the first digits never actually read as 24: – they read as 00: or 01:

    Any suggestions?

FYI, I got this from the folks who make QT Edit. Seems to answer the question.

QuickTime timecode tracks have an optional flag that can be set that limits the timecode to fit within a 24 hour clock. It sounds like that flag is set on your file. QT Edit can switch off this flag, which should allow you to set the timecode correctly either in QT Edit or FCP 7.
